Lore:
Heavy tanks used by rebel forces during the Apostasy of Kipkean demanded stronger anti-tank assets from the Imperial Army. The Factory-world of Renault responded with the Heavy Laser Canon. This larger, more powerful version of the standard laser cannon used the same battery for power – though only for a few shots each. Within the first several decades of the conflict a requirement was recognized for larger indirect fire weapons smaller than vehicle-scale. After several different prototypes were tested, the Bombastic Field Gun and Malicious Rocket Launcher were adopted for large scale production. These weapons contributed significantly during the siege of the rebel stronghold at Talliston Prime. All three of these new weapons were mounted on the venerable Renault-pattern Support Weapon Carrier Platform. In addition, their development coincided with the discovery of another self-propelled weapon carriage. It was named the Squat-pattern, after the technoarcheologist , Thuddy “Squat” McSquatington, who discovered it.
